1st Stewarton Boys’ Brigade
Anchor Boys current role is just under 60 boys. This year we took part in all the Battalion activities which included a theme day, Children’s Entertainer and Soft play event. As well as this the boys visited the Fire Station along with a visit from Devlin’s pickup trucks. The Anchor boys will be having a summer trip on 3rd June to Ayr Farm Park. There is 14 boys being promoted to the Junior Section and we have a few new recruits confirmed they are joining us next session where we expect another busy intake.
Junior Section roll is currently 32. The Juniors are continuing to go swimming once a month to various venues after the closure of the Magnum. The Battalion events this year we have taken part in are the Crafts Evening, Supergroup, Unihoc, Cooking, Treasure Hunt, Ten Pin Bowling, Swimming gala and Cross Country. New events in the programme have included a visit to the Police Horses, a visit by Lifesavers Scotland and also attended a couple of Kilmarnock matches We also had a weekend stay in Saltcoats at end April where 25 boys enjoyed the weekend away and the fellowship that brings (We tried a full 3 day/2 night again and apart from a few very tired boys this worked very well) The Juniors will continue Games Nights and visits to local parks until 7th June. They will be going their summer trip to Ayr Farm Park along with the Anchor Boys. We are promoting 15 boys to the Company Section and with the 14 from Anchor’s we basically more or less maintain our existing number.
Company/Senior section current role is settled at 30. We will gain 15 boys from Junior’s however due to University commitments, jobs and attaining the official leaving age of 18 we may lose some of our Senior section next session. We took part in the Battalion activities which were Alton Towers trip, quiz, Drill competition, Curling, Badminton, Cross Country and swimming gala. We are continuing to attend the Scotland matches when we can and have secured tickets for the Scotland England match in June. As well as a trip to Hampden this year, we also ran a morning to the Airsoft facility at Mauchline. This year’s weekend camp we are attending PGL Dalguise where the boys will carry out various Adventure Activities over 4 days/3 nights. We are now in our summer programme where the boys get go-karting, , BBQ’s, Obstacle Course and a visit to the Airspace in East Kilbride. We also have 3 boys nearing completion of their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.
The Company & Seniors took part in the National competitions again this year, which is a knock out format in badminton, 5 A-Side, Table Tennis, Chess and Masterteam (Quiz). We had mixed fortunes but it was a great experience for the boys who competed with teams from all over Scotland.
Annual Display & Parent’s Night
Recently we held their Annual Display & Parents Night recently in Stewarton Academy. The boys put on a show of entertainment, marching and awards for 250 family and friends of the Company. The show included games, sketches, songs and marching to keep the crowd entertained.
The night finished up with our presentation of awards with Rev. George Lind who has now retired from St Columba’s Church and as such from our Chaplaincy.
