1st Stewarton Guides

The 1st Stewarton Girl Guide Unit is celebrating its 100th anniversary and one of the events we recently had to celebrate this was an Open Day and afternoon tea party on 30th September.
We had our archives on display, which we have collected over the years, consisting of photographs, old uniforms, camping and guiding memorabilia etc. The day turned out to be absolutely amazing with lots of people coming in to visit us and reminiscing about their time in guiding, as well as meeting up with old friends they hadn’t seen in years and recalling stories and memories that were wonderful to listen to. The present day guides all enjoyed meeting ex guides and leaders and hearing about different guiding activities from many different decades. We had uniforms from as far back as 1910 and several articles on display which have been donated to our archives over the years from ex guides and leaders.

We had an anniversary cake which was decorated with our units new Centenary badge which has been designed by the guides themselves and we also sold copies of our Centenary recipe book which the guides have also created. Woven Centenary badges and recipe books are available for sale and anyone wishing to purchase these can contact me using the details shown below.

If anyone who has any kind of guiding memorabilia, whether it be photos, badges, uniforms, or anything else at all and would like to donate them to our archives, we would be delighted to care for them.

We are also composing a memory book of stories and memories of people’s time in guiding, about the kind of things they did, the memories they recall, what they think they got from guiding and what influences guiding might have had or still has on them. We would love anyone to send us their stories and memories whether they were a Guide, a Ranger, a Leader or even anyone who just helped in some small way so we can include them in our book.

The Guide unit also has a Go Fund Me page to try and raise some funds to help with other celebrations for this year and right through to August next year. If anyone would like to donate please access the page either via a post on my facebook page or visit the “GoFundme UK “site, type in Stewarton Guides and place a donation. Your details will be completely secure and we would be extremely grateful for your support.
