This year’s 89th Bonnet Guild festival week will run from Saturday 11 June to Sunday 19 June 2022

with the highlight of the week, the crowning of the Corsehill Queen, taking place on Gala Day, Saturday, 18 June in Avenue Square, Stewarton.   Two special ‘abbreviated’ crownings will also take place on the 18th, to recognise the Corsehill Queens (Katie Paterson 2020 and Freya McInnes 2021) – and Courts, who were all selected during the pandemic, when lockdowns did not allow for the traditional crowning ceremonies to be held. In the event of wet weather, the crownings will be moved indoors to the Area Centre, just off Avenue Square.

Hugh Gillies, President of Stewarton Bonnet Guild said: “After a two year absence, this year marks the 89th anniversary of the Bonnet Guild and we are looking forward to reinstating our festival week very much, with a unique triple crowning ceremony, as well as a whole host of traditional activities! Preparations are well underway and celebrations will commence with traditional bunting being hung along the main streets of Stewarton at the beginning of the week, and will finish with the parade to the war memorial and divine service on Sunday 19 June.  The “Movies” theme for the decorated shop window displays and float parade on Saturday 18 June, is sure to be one of the most colourful and anticipated parts of the week and we are hoping for record participation in this our 89th year!”

The eagerly anticipated festival returns with a week of the usual fun, games and activities planned, for all ages to enjoy including the popular junior football and tennis, trail runs, small bore rifle shooting, car treasure hunt, pool, darts and pub quiz as well as some new events like an open badminton competition, karaoke, dance class and kids party night!

For the full programme of festival event details see Bonnet Guild Souvenir Programme – on door to door sale from Friday 27th May and then in various outlets around the town.  Despite very best efforts, the Bonnet Guild cannot offer contactless payments, so please save up your £2.50 cash to be able to buy a programme and support your Bonnet Guild programme sellers!

The Bonnet Guild festival began in 1933 and was originally created by local businessmen in Stewarton to provide a summer gala day for local families.  Today, it is a week-long community festival, run by volunteer members of the Bonnet Guild – a non-profit organisation. All proceeds raised from this year’s festival will go towards ensuring the local festival will return next year for the whole community to enjoy once again.
