Dunlop Fun Run

What it’s all for

We’re trying to raise some money for the village as a whole. This year’s run is to raise funds for the Primary school and the Village Hall. We hope the race will become an annual fixture to enable us to raise funds for other good causes in the village.

In 2012 we were lucky enough to see the Olympic torch relay pass through the village and this year with the Commonwealth games in Glasgow we aim to capture the spirit of the Games by inspiring people to get active for a good cause.

The run is open to all ages and all abilities and we want a wide range participants, young and old, to take to the quiet country roads around Dunlop.

There’s a variety of distances to choose from. There’s a 10k for the more enthusiastic or serious runner, 5k for those who are less so and 2k for children and anyone else who just wants to have fun whether they walk, run, push a pram or are carried on shoulders.

The race starts on Kirkland road outside the Village Hall, goes up through Dunlop Main Street onto Newmill Road where the open countryside and the gradual climb begins.

The 2k route turns at Cairnknowe Cottage while the 5k turns at the junction at the top of the road then returns to Dunlop Park.

The 10k route carries on over the next hill to the Neilston Road before heading to Dunlop House, turning and returning back into Dunlop past the Wee Glen, finally finishing in the Dunlop Park.

The route consists of a gradual climb with one big hill, but from there on in its mainly downhill to the finishing line.

Registration can be done in advance online, or at 1pm on the day. Check out www.rundunlop.wordpress.com for more details. Prices to compete in the 10k, 5k and 2k respectively are £12, £7 and £2, (£10, £5 and £2 for S.A.A. members). 5’s and under run for free.
