Do you enjoy a stroll in the countryside? Are you looking for a post-holiday challenge? Do you have a budding athlete at home? Do you like cake? If the answer to all these questions is YES! Then come along and take part in this year’s RunDunlop, the community fun run with a cake at the end.
Starting at 2pm on Sunday 13th September, the streets and surrounding countryside will play host to RunDunlop. Everyone is invited to take part and help raise funds for Dunlop Primary School and other local organisations. Whether you’re young, not-so-young, fit or not-so-fit, a dedicated walker, amateur jogger or club runner, the race is open to all abilities and wheelchair accessible.
With a choice of 2k, 5k and 10k races, there is something for everyone.
Competitive and club runners should relish the 10k route with hill challenges and flat straights, while the less competitive runners can enjoy the picturesque surroundings.
The 2k race is an opportunity for children to run, walk and have a laugh with parents, grandparents, and friends. You could even take the dog for a walk, put the baby in the pram, toddler on shoulders and head out to enjoy the great outdoors.
Everyone can bask in the glow of their achievement at the end with a delicious cake. There will be rewards for the first 3 places in the 10k and 5k for both male and female entrants. There will also be a first prize for male and female veterans and juniors in both races and for the first boy and girl home in the 2k.
Registration for the races can be done in advance online via www.rundunlop.wordpress.com or from 12.30-1.45 on the day. Entry costs are £14 for the 10k, £8 for the 5k and £2 for the 2k.
We can only hope that this year’s race will be as successful as last year’s. The sun shone for our runners and spectators and we were thankful of the support from Kilmarnock Harriers and Vibrant Communities who provided much needed equipment and indispensable advice.
Donations from local businesses also meant that we could provide our runners with some great prizes last year and once again we would like to take this opportunity to thank those who supported us. KellyBronze Scotland, Replicade, Woods Associates, KP Brown Associates, Struthers Farmhouse, Mundell Landscapes, The Canny man, Bowfield Hotel, Cineworld, The Auld Hoose and The Village Inn all donated generously to the cause. If anyone is interested in sponsoring any of the prizes this year, we would love to hear from you. We can be contacted via our Facebook page www.facebook.com/rundunlop or by email [email protected]
For all potential runners, joggers or walkers, we hope to see you in Dunlop on Sunday 13th September. There’s a cake with your name on it….
