Members of Stewarton Drama Group and The Dunlop Players were treading the boards in February at the Ayrshire District Round of the Scottish Community Drama Association’s One Act Play Festival.
Stewarton Drama Group’s production of ‘Bouncers’ (Remix) Abridged by John Godber and The Dunlop Players production of ‘Lucy in the Sky’ by Tony Layton were both entered into the annual national competition for talented thespians across Scotland.
The exciting theatrical festival was staged in Kilmarnock’s Palace Theatre on Thursday 19th February. During the evening, each of the competing teams performed a short play of their choice of approximately 45 minutes in length, all of which were judged in public at the end of the evening by a professional drama adjudicator, Ronnie Mackie.
The audience heard the adjudicator’s comments on the various categories that marks were awarded for including acting, production, stage presentation and general achievement.
At the conclusion of the evening’s entertainment, awards for Best Acting, Best Stage Presentation and Best Stage Lighting were presented to the most deserving teams, as well as the trophies for first, second and third place overall.
Nerves were running high for all those participating, because the team placed first on the night (To be confirmed after Thu 19th Feb) now have the honour of going forward to represent Ayrshire at the West of Scotland Final of the competition, which will be held back in The Palace Theatre, Kilmarnock between Friday 27th and Sunday 29th March.
The winning Ayrshire team (TBC after 19th Feb) will perform on the afternoon of Sunday 29th March at 2.00pm. There they will have the opportunity of competing for a much sought after place at the prestigious National Final of the competition in Orkney at the end of April.
The team ultimately crowned Scottish champions will go on to represent Scotland at the British Final of the competition, which will be held in Bracknell later in the summer.
